Contemporary textile artist / illustrator Jane Millum works as PollyWhistle to make “weirdly beautiful” little people and fabric illustrations that tell tall tales and small stories of the everyday extraordinary. Making textile treats to help people find gifts for their “hard to buy for” loved ones and leading people into making whimsy and mischief with their own textile creations are two of her very favourite things.
Jane had a background in arts management and not only coordinates the workshop programme here but presents the regular PollyWhistle and friends Pop-Up shops. She has exhibited and taken part in events locally and further afield including the News Mills Art Trail, Buxton Art Trail, Textile Art Fair at Compton Verney National Folk Art Museum and sold at the Sheffield Millennium Galley Handmade Christmas event.
Jane works closely with Dian creatively as well as in running the venue. As TizzyWhistle they collaborate on textile and paper designs for apparel, accessories, journals and handmade books, a project borne out of lockdown.
Currently studying for an MA in Illustration Jane’s interest in folk art, country faux lore (ie made up stories) and family folk lore influence her workshops and making.
